Kris Mitchell - Viewed Askew

Well, somebody managed to finally track this guy down and interview him. They even went to the trouble of asking to use my pictures for it!

A good read, and thanks Greg for using my pictures. (with permission!)

Showing the love for the 52 Week Project.

I found out today that a blog looking for inspirational Lighting Resources (from a photographic point of view) has linked to my 52 Week Project!

And looking at some of the other resources he’s got on the list, I feel pretty damn lucky about it.

A big thanks to Brian Auer, the writer of the Epic Edits blog for the love!

Love his visual style, so over the top… It’s nice to see a look in the making of his stuff. Really need to grab one of his books.

In this video, two British police officers come up to a young woman who is filming a building and harass her, imply that she is a terrorist, intimidate her, demand to see her footage. The policeman says that he’s harassing her for being “cocky” — punishing her for failing to cringe sufficiently. England’s Police chiefs have ordered policemen to stop harassing photographers, but this officer called for backup and 7 more officers converged on the photographer. The photographer was brutally detained — she is covered in bruises — and fined but she had the presence of mind to return to the scene and interview the witnesses to the assault.

Just when you thought it was safe to go and take pictures outside in the UK again, a photographer in London has been arrested for taking pictures of a church because it’s next to the Bank of America-Merrill Lynch building.

I’m finding this to be more and more of a concern - why is it that Police Officers think that people with a large, conspicuous camera and tripod must be terrorists?

Surely the way to go about some subversive reconnaissance would be to use Google Earth and Street View? Barring that, roll up like a tourist and use a small Point and Click? But not some massive, noticeable camera?!
