Kris Mitchell - Viewed Askew
Kick ass workshop the other day with Lou O’Bedlam.
Shooting in direct sunlight? No Flash? What the hell was I doing? I was shooting the hell outta the lovely Ms. Reynolds here. It was a good experience, I like to control my light, bend it to my will. But this was all about using one lens (50mm), and interacting with the model, working WITH them, not just shooting them. Good times.

Meet Rosy - The second model we got to shoot at Garage Studios Studio Lighting taster session. Absolute star, who was up for a bit of fun. (Sorry for starting the whole “Hair-flicking” thing, my bad.. totally.)

“Pay it Forward” - A simple premise, and something I’ve been trying to do throughout the year.

A simple idea, giving something to the people that give to the community every day. What can I give? Hopefully my time and skill as a photographer.

I’ve done this twice so far, once with the Preston Park firehall, and now with the people from St. Bartholomew’s Church. Both time’s the confusion coming from the people I wanted to photograph struck me as odd.

“Take my picture? What’s in it for you?” - the most common train of thought is what I received. But the answer? Nothing. Just the experience gained from talking to strangers and taking their portrait. I guess nobody does anything because it’s a nice thing to do anymore.

Well, the people who take care of St. Bart’s were kind enough to lend me some time. and I hope you’ll enjoy the results.

Thanks,

Kris

Meet Adrian The Tailor from Agnews.

Adrian is the exceedingly pleasant fellow who sorted out some trousers for me the other week.

He was such a character that I had to take a picture of him. Frankly, it’s people like Adrian that make me glad I live in a city like Brighton.

Week 4 - The cock up… So another week, same old room. I’d planned on getting out this week had a whole separate shoot in mind. Then life interrupts and dinner needs cooking and blah blah blah… So this was taken in between all the prep and cooking of a Sunday roast. Strobist info: Canon 430 EXII - 1/16th - Softbox - Camera Left and high Nikon SB-900 - 64th - Umbrella - Camera left and low.

I’d had these bloody “glasses” lying around since going to see “Up” in the cinema some time ago and have been meaning to do something with them. Well, I finally got around to it.
Outtake & Contact Sheet will be up later
(Now, just to wash all that Bryl-cream out of the hair)

Week 2 of the project started with a photoshoot for the men and women of the Preston Circus Fire Hall. (The set is here ) The local council has decided that the fire hall is too costly to run and will be closing it down sometime in 2010. I’ve decided to give back to them by offering a portrait session for the lot of them, which if the first session is any indication will be a fantastic little project in its own right. Strobist info: - one Canon 430 exII in a softbox camera left at 1/8th - One Nikon SB900 at 1/4 power with a full cut CTO lighting the wooden doors used as a backdrop. Lighting Diagram here Both triggered by poverty wizards. (I can hardly wait for Nikon to update it’s sb600 so I can ditch the triggers)
